Where can you study to become an aromatherapist?

In order to practice as an aromatherapist in South Africa, you need to be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) as a Therapeutic Aromatherapist.  Training is over 2 years at an accredited institution.  Currently the only institutions recognized by the AHPCSA for therapeutic aromatherapy are Camelot International and Potchefstroom Akademie.  For contact details of these institutions please click on “Education” on the link below:



Membership is annual, running from the 1st of October to the 30th of September each year. There is a once-off initial administration fee and an annual membership subscription fee.

There are the following categories of membership:

  • 1. Full member
  • 2. Associate member
  • 3. Student member
  • 4. Corporate member
  • 5. Honorary life member
  • 6. Veteran member (over the age of 70)
